LAND-BASED · CULTURAL · MOVEMENT

Movement is medicine.

Wâhkôhtowin in Motion takes Indigenous youth out of the classroom and onto the land. Climbing walls, bike trails, frozen lakes, ski hills, and camps where Elders sit with young people around a fire. The activity changes with the season. What stays constant is that a young person is moving, outside, with their community around them.

This is not recreation for its own sake. Movement builds confidence that transfers into everything else, and doing it on the land, guided by Knowledge Keepers, means a young person is building a relationship with who they are at the same time.

What we do

Fall and winter — indoor climbing, snowshoeing, and skiing. For many of our youth it is the first time on skis or on a wall.

Spring and summer — biking, camping, water safety, and land-based overnights. Our bike fleet gets youth riding who have never had a bike of their own.

Year-round — Elder-guided cultural teachings, ceremony, community feasts, and food sovereignty work including the annual buffalo harvest.

Who this is for

Indigenous youth in Regina and surrounding First Nations communities. Open participation. No experience needed, no gear needed, and no cost to families.

That last part is deliberate. Equipment, transportation, and food are covered, because a young person should never be left behind for lack of a bike, a ride, or a meal.

Elders and Knowledge Keepers

Cultural programming is led by Elders, and Elders are compensated for every teaching they share. Culture is not an add-on to the movement programming. It is the reason the movement matters.

Where the program stands

Wâhkôhtowin in Motion currently operates without an operating funder. When The Comeback Society became independent in July 2026, the federal funding that carried this program did not come with us.

The program is still running, on the strength of relationships rather than a budget line. If you want Indigenous youth to keep moving, this is the moment it matters.
